Paweł Olejnik, Professor D.Sc. Ph.D. Eng.

About

Paweł Olejnik is a full professor at Lodz University of Technology (TUL) and holds the title of Professor of Engineering and Technical Sciences in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering. His scientific work focuses on the natural sciences, particularly physics, mathematics, and mechanics, with a special emphasis on dynamical analysis, numerical computations, optimization, and the control of dynamical systems, both continuous and discontinuous. He also conducts experimental research in laboratory conditions, combining theory with engineering practice.

He specializes in mechatronics and nonlinear dynamics of systems, integrating knowledge from mechanics, electronics, and computer science in research on modern mechatronic systems. He is the author of numerous scientific publications devoted to modeling, analysis, and control of dynamical systems, including nonlinear dynamics of continuous and discontinuous systems, numerical modeling, parameter identification, optimization methods, and applications of artificial intelligence in engineering. He has carried out projects funded by the National Science Center, and the results of his work find applications in both engineering practice and academic education.

In his academic and research work, he combines a passion for discovery with a practical approach to engineering. He believes that the most effective way of teaching is to inspire students to think independently, solve problems creatively, and connect theory with experience. As a supervisor of many theses and research projects, he supports young engineers in developing analytical, research, and creative skills.

He has created and conducted academic courses in numerical methods, mechatronic modeling, artificial intelligence in engineering, nonlinear system dynamics, and control of electromechanical systems. He actively develops modern teaching methods in mechatronics, integrating research with education.

His work focuses on exploring the connections between theory and practice and on developing interdisciplinary methods for describing and analyzing complex dynamical systems. He combines scientific research with a passion for promoting technical knowledge, showing that mechatronics is not only a field of technology but also a way of understanding the modern world.

• By a decision dated March 24, 2025, the President of the Republic of Poland conferred the title of Professor of Engineering and Technical Sciences in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering (reviews).
• In 2023: Appointed as the Head of the Department of Automation, Biomechanics, and Mechatronics in January 2023 by the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, upon the request of the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME).
• From 2019: Employment as a professor at TUL related to participation in various committees in FME.
• In 2018-2021: Cooperation on the didactic program of studies for the field of Automation and Robotics at FME. 
• In 2013: D.Sc. degree in Applied Mechanics from TUL preceded by an issue of the monograph that covered special applications of numerical methods for solution of discontinuous dynamical systems.

• Since 2007: Member of the organizing committee of the international conference "Dynamical Systems – Theory and Applications", from 2017 as Vice-Chairman.
• In 2002: Ph.D. degree after defending a doctoral dissertation in applied mechanics with a distinction of experimental research (reviews). At that time, designing and launching a small research stand to familiarize a wider audience with the experimentally modeled discontinuous (stick-slip) mechanical system of a two-stage drum brake mechanism with two degrees of freedom. Publication of numerical and experimental research results in scientific journals and presentation at several national and international conferences.
• In 2000: M.Sc. Eng. diploma in computer physics of TUL after 5-year studies at the Faculty of Technical Physics, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics in Lodz (Poland).
• Since 1999: with the Department of Automation, Biomechanics and Mechatronics of TUL; Lectures in the theory of control, optimisation, mechatronics; Exercises in Scilab, LabVIEW, Matlab, Java programming languages; Real-world and numerical experimentation.

• Experimental validation of closed-form analytical solutions for free single-mode nonlinear cantilever beam dynamics using high-speed vision. The results were published in 2026 in Applied Sciences-Basel
• A multiscale review of friction-induced interactions: acoustic emissions, vibrations, and wear. The results were published in 2025 in Nonlinear Dynamics
• Investigation of magnetic field distribution and energy losses in a PMLSM under stick-slip friction. The results were published in 2025 in Energies
• Application of a neural network based on a physical model for determining a friction law. The results were published in 2023 in Meccanica
• Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of a double variable-length pendulum with counterweight mass, kinematic excitation and friction. The results were published in 2023 in Nonlinear Dynamics
• Examining the impact of relatively low-frequency structural vibrations on the sliding frictional connection in a chain of mechanical oscillators with variable normal force. The results were published in 2023 in Machines
